FALLS CHURCH, Va., 30 March 2013. A feral cat watches from a safe distance as a feeder places food at an established feeding station. Arriving daily at the same time and place, volunteers not only provide food and clean water but keep an eye out for unfamiliar animals. Efforts are then made to trap any newcomers, have them neutered or spayed and then returned to the colony.
